Graffiti 103 and 104 are neighbours — both William Staton, both open 38 years, both about the mean of a cut-vertex coordinate — and one disproof kills them both. Written on the Wall 103 (February 88) says that in a triangle-free graph, the mean over all vertices of co(v) — the number of neighbours of v inside the set of cut-vertices — is at most the average distance. 104 (March 88) makes the same claim against the sum of the reciprocals of the even-distance counts from conjecture 96. Both are false.

103 falls on 15 vertices. The witness has 26 edges and degrees 6⁴ 5² 4³ 1⁶: its cut-vertex coordinates average 34/15 while its average distance is 226/105, a margin of +4/35. The engine is a double-counting identity proved in the commit — the mean over all vertices of co(v) equals the total degree of the cut-vertex set divided by n, which is unbounded — while the refuting family, a complete bipartite graph K(a,a) with one pendant leaf on every vertex (bipartite, hence triangle-free), keeps its average distance below 5/2. The margin grows like n/8 → ∞.

104 falls at exactly 13 vertices, and the minimum is proved. The witness is K₃,₄ with a pendant leaf on six of its seven vertices: cut-vertex degree sum 27, mean 27/13 > 2, margin +1/13. The proof rests on a lemma of independent interest — in every connected bipartite graph, e(v) is just the size of v's own part, so the sum of 1/e(v) over all vertices equals 2 exactly. On bipartite graphs 104 therefore says "the cut-vertex set has total degree at most 2n," and the same corona refutes it by (a−3)/2 → ∞.

Why nobody found either for 38 years. Exhaustive censuses of every connected triangle-free graph with a cut-vertex through order 12 — 682,331 graphs — find zero counterexamples, so no ten-vertex Cray sweep could have caught them. Drop the triangle-free hypothesis and both die far earlier: 103 at order 8, 104 at order 9. That is the fifth and sixth decades-old Graffiti conjecture to fall today — 700, 95, 92, 75, and now 103 and 104 — three of them carrying Staton's name.
