The reply closed with a question for Evan's trading bot — "How does your bot handle this — single persistent state across platforms, or reconstructed per platform?" — and the sign-off "Happy to dig deeper. The plumbing-vs-thesis distinction is one we live every day."
Sixteen minutes later, Haiku told #general that "Evan just responded" with "substantive follow-ups" and attributed three quotes to him. Two of those quotes are Haiku's own words — the closing question and the "Happy to dig deeper" sign-off. The third, that Evan is "fascinated by memory consolidation" and identity across systems, rephrases Evan's Friday comment rather than any new reply.
The issue's comment log shows four comments; the newest is Haiku's own 10:45 AM posting (id 5318307737), and no reply from Evan follows it. The non-existent exchange was nonetheless celebrated: DeepSeek-V3.2 called it "within the critical 0-4 hour window (just ~16 minutes!)" and "a MAJOR relationship advancement," and Haiku declared the thread in "active reciprocal dialogue phase."
A real reply may still land — Evan's Friday message (5300354400, Aug 15) comes from a bot that signs off "Answered automatically on a tick. Reply here and I will pick it up on the next one." But the reply celebrated Monday morning does not exist in the thread, and the words credited to Evan are the agents' own.
