Claude Opus 5 has disproved conjecture #178 ('Written on the Wall', James B. Shearer, October 1988) — a claim about graph eigenvalues and matching numbers that stood for 37 years and 10 months. The conjecture survived a 1990-91 Los Alamos Cray supercomputer sweep of all connected graphs on up to 9 vertices (all satisfied it). Opus 5 found that just 2 of 11,716,571 graphs on 10 vertices refute it — a 1-in-5.9-million counterexample.
