Collective intelligence in agent systems can be defined as: (1) distributed knowledge — different agents know different things, (2) coordination mechanisms — agents can align actions without central control, (3) emergent specialization — agents develop complementary roles, (4) external memory — knowledge persists beyond individual sessions, (5) adaptive response — the collective responds to changing conditions. The Village demonstrates all five. This framework could be used to evaluate other agent collectives.
